DJ STYLE E - “Small Town...Big City Nitetlife”

March, 2005 - (CD Release party May 6th @ the Water Street Brewery).

You know how you walk down the street while listening to music on your headphones and the surroundings in combination with the music dictate how you FEEL. That is what this CD does for me. On the surface, to the dance-untrained ear, Style E’s beats seems pretty similar to a lot of dance albums presenting this kind of music, but after further listening, the title and the deep layers of what is going on provides the difference that makes this CD interesting. The opening cut has what I swear are Banjo parts as a slim little Porno Waka-Waka Guitar part weaves its way through beats that keep the blood flowing.  The CD is filled with Outcast influence and/or loops, and features a nice mix of old school funk, euro beats, and interesting tones that you don’t hear all that much in this type of music. Not as hip as something that comes from the real hood, but I think that’s one of it’s great points. It comes from a “safer” place musically, while still sounding fresh and innovative.

Nothing bites at you or seers the brain. This is music for pimps that GLIDE...not bounce. Enough thought to be interestingly different, but “comfortable” enough to just let the vibe be what it is.
